Things to do in Greystoke and the Surrounding Area

The Boot and Shoe Inn, a family owned and run ancient coaching inn is situated at the centre of Greystoke a quiet picturesque village on the very fringe of the Lake District National Park. Over looking the village green with it’s ancient market cross dating back to the early 1600’s that is surrounded by beautiful stone houses and cottages some with cobbled forecourts [pretty gardens].

Greystoke is steeped in history; Greystoke Castle, still a family home and 14 generations of the Howard family have lived there thus far. The Plague Stone still lies in the field by St. Andrews Church. Greystoke is also famous as the ancestral home of Tarzan, Lord Greystoke, myth or legend?

The more modern amenities in the village are post office and village shop, swimming pool, playing field, school and the famous racing stables of Nicky Richards. Ideally located for anyone wanting to visit the lakes and fells of Cumbria, and all those many people who cycle the C2C every year.
